Artist Biography – Lisa Chin

Lisa Chin is an artist in the Hudson Valley. She majored in Fine Art, but chose to make her career as a Graphic Designer. After working for over 25 years as a Graphic Designer, she has returned to her love of fine arts. She has since immersed herself in abstract painting. Currently, her obsession is with fluid painting. She works mainly with Acrylic Paints, but also dabbles in Alcohol Inks.

Being able to express herself through painting has been a very real awakening, she credits painting with helping her get through some major upheavals in the last few years.

Lisa Chin is an intuitive artist who let’s her emotions flow out through her paintings. She is inspired by everything sensory. Her paintings will invoke a sense of taste or texture, movement or emotion. She chooses her colors and using various techniques, attempts to impart what she is currently feeling, contemplating, working through or striving for.

Artist Statement - Lisa Chin

I like working in abstract because a lot of what I was working through when I returned to art was purely emotional. Abstract leaves room for that. I also like that with abstract art, the viewer brings their own experiences and emotions to the viewing process, and therefore they can have a completely different take on my painting.

I enjoy working with fluid paint... at first because of the seeming randomness, just the colors and effects were mesmerizing, but then I wanted to make it less random, and that’s when I really submerged myself into learning different techniques, mixing mediums, paint viscosity, etc., and that’s when I started doing it with intention. I enjoy the whole process. Spontaneity joins the mix, and my paintings are a combination of form and feeling. For now it seems to be the perfect art form for me to express myself.
